ABA rules and policies will be similar to those in men’s leagues around the area.
League organizers are not referees. They cannot change any calls. Referees have final decision. Please we urge you to respect the officials and their calls!
ZERO TOLERANCE:
- Absolutely no fighting
- Any punches or physical attack will result in automatic ban from the league (NO REFUND)
NO REFUNDS:
- There will be no refund given once you have committed and paid for the league
Game Length:
- Two 20 minutes halves
- Halves may be shortened if games do not start on time
- First overtime is 1 minute (regular season)
- Second overtime is first to score (regular season)
- OT rules subject to change for playoffs and championship game. Refs will notify teams prior to those games.
Game Clock:
- Clock will not stop in the first half
- Clock will stop the last 2 minutes in the second half
- Clock will not stop if there is a 20 or more point lead
- Game will end if there is a 20+ point lead under 2 minute in the second half and if there is a 10+ Point lead with under 1 minute remaining in the game.
Timeouts:
- 2 timeouts per half
- Any player can call timeout (even on bench)
- You can advance ball on a timeout in the second half
- 1 timeout per overtime
- Timeouts do not carry over
- if you do not have any TOs left and call one, it will result in a technical foul (2 free throws and possession)
Violations:
- 3 seconds in the key for an offensive player
- 10 seconds to cross half court
- 5 seconds to inbound the ball
- 5 seconds to move when closely guarded
Fouls:
- 7 team fouls = 1 and 1
- 10 team fouls = 2 free throws
- Team fouls carry over into overtime
Personal Fouls:
- 5 fouls and you are disqualified from the game
- Technical foul counts as a team and player foul
Technical Fouls:
- Cursing will result in technical foul
- 2 technical fouls in a game and you are disqualified from the game
Technical Foul Penalty:
- 2 shots and possession for opposing team
Calling a Game:
- if a team is up 20 or more points with 2 minutes or less remaining, the officials can call the game.
- if a team is up 10 or more points with 1 minute or less remaining, the officials can call a game.
Rosters:
- League is open to males ages 16 and older
- Teams will be drafted by captains
- Each team will have 7 players
Jerseys:
- All players must wear an official league jersey
- Ok to borrow another player’s if you forgot yours
- If you cannot borrow one, the other team will be awarded 3 points per missing jersey
Arriving Late:
- If a team shows up late, their game will be shortened
Teams Who Need Subs:
- If a team only has 5 players coming, they can pick up 1 sub player from another team.
- The sub player must be a player that was drafted one round lower than player that is being substituted. 1st rounders can never sub.
Playoff Eligibility:
- All teams and players will make playoffs
Standings Tiebreakers (in order):
- Head to head; if there are more than 2 teams tied, will automatically go to next tie breaker
- Point differential
- Total points scored
- Total points allowed
- Coin toss by organizers
Trades:
- Trades will only occur if deemed necessary by the organizers in order to better the league
Stat keeping:
- Every team will be designated games throughout the season to statkeep
